
A small number of people have died after being inoculated against H1N1 pandemic influenza, but studies have demonstrated that deaths not caused by vaccines, one senior official in the World Health Organization said.
"No new security vulnerability has been identified on the basis of reports issued to date ... Reporting to date confirms that a pandemic influenza vaccine is as safe as the seasonal flu vaccine," WHO vaccine expert Marie-Paule Kieny told a conference call.
Governments have previously reported that 65 million vaccines have been administered against H1N1, known as swine flu, but the real figure is probably higher, "she said.
